Fairy Magic Is The Worst!

We are learning to effectively use a writing structure (a narrative) that is appropriate to the purpose and reader.
A couple of weeks ago my class and I had to make a narrative short story. I found it hard to come up with an idea but then my friend helped come up with one and its called Fairy Magic Is The Worst!

Fairy Magic Is The Worst!

Hi, my name is Isla. I live in this beautiful town across the nice, shimmering sea. Today I'm going to be looking through my great, great, great, great, Aunt’s diary from years back. That long ago, my great grandmother was only a child.

When I was going through it, it had lots of dust sitting in the center of the 3rd page. But I looked at it closely. And it wasn't any sort of dust, it was yellow. It looked like fairy magic. I thought to myself maybe it is. I touched it and I fell asleep.

When I woke up I was as small as a fairy. My voice was so squeaky. When I looked behind my back I even had wings. I tried to yell to my mum and try to tell her what had happened but she couldn't even hear me.

I tried the wings and tried to fly to the living room where my mum was but at first it didn't work but after a while they decided to work. When I got into the living room, mum was reading her cooking book.

I tried to tell her about me turning into a fairy but my squeaky voice was too quiet. After she was finished reading her book, she got up and saw me. I was so happy because she would be able to help me.

I told her that I was looking through our great, great, great, aunts book and there was fairy dust in the center of the book so I touched it, and then I fell asleep. Mum said it's fine just to calm down so I did.

Mum said that this has happened to her before so she knows what she has to do. She went into the basement and there was a stack of books about fairy magic so mum went for the purple one that said, how to change a fairy back into a human.

When mum read that one, it said you need mashed pumpkins, mashed potatoes, grated carrots, and milk.  It also said you need to mix it all together. After mum got all the ingredients together and mixed them all I could finally eat it.

But she said it had to call down first and it would take about  half an hour. Well I was waiting for the half hour I was looking through mum’s cooking book.

When she said it was done I got a bowl and ate some, then I fell back  asleep and woke back up  in my human body and I was so excited. I said to myself I'm never touching this fairy dust again.

This writing took me about 2 days to complete it. I found it tricky because I'm not that used to writing my own made up stories. I'm used to been given a topic for me to write.

Forces and Motion - A Day of Learning

Last week, on Wednesday, we had a forces and motion day - Topana and neke. On this day we learnt new things about forces and motions. The day involved the whole school rotating around different classrooms and doing different learning activities. Each group got to complete three out of eight activities.

After that, we created DLOs about the three activities that we completed and what we learnt from them. My DLO is embedded down below.

I tried really hard on Forces and Motion day to complete all three activities. I found the catapults easy because I done catapults in my class a week before. If I was to do this again I would have taken an iPad to the class I was in to take photos to put on my blog.

Digital Technology Matariki Project - Bluebots and QR Codes

For Matariki we learnt about the stars. We made a special Bluebot mat. On the mat we had QR codes and when you scanned them you learnt about the stars. The kids had to code the bluebots to get to the QR codes. We learnt that there are nine stars in the cluster and that each star has its own names and something it is connected to like the sea or the weather.
